NGTC in China #
NGTC, the National Gemstone Testing Center is an organisation in China to evaluate the pearl quality.
In this video, we introduced how NGTC the gemstone testing center evaluates the quality of freshwater pearls. The center uses a combination of advanced techniques of X-ray analysis, UV light examination, and visual inspection and expert knowledge to assess the quality of pearls, taking into account various factors such as size, shape, color, luster, and surface quality.
How GIA Differs from NGTC #
If you’re interested in pearls, you’ve probably heard of GIA – the Gemological Institute of America. As the global authority on gems since 1931, GIA’s expertise in assessing the quality of pearls is second to none.
In this video, we dive deep into the seven factors that GIA uses to define natural pearl quality, and compare them to the six factors used by NGTC. We also showcase how different types of pearls can vary in color, as demonstrated by a chromatogram by GIA.
Whether you’re a jewelry collector or simply curious about pearls, this video will give you a comprehensive understanding of what to look for in a high-quality natural pearl.
